Some of my favorite nights of the year entail me sitting on my couch with my dogs, a glass of wine and popcorn watching famous award shows. I am a pop culture fanatic, so I enjoy watching my favorite celebrities get awards. But the most exciting part is seeing what celebrities wear on the red carpet. Several people have chosen sustainable red carpet looks in shows such as the Met Gala, the Oscars and other highly-rated award shows. Below are some of my favorite ethical red carpet looks from A-list celebrities!
2023 - Vanessa Hudgens’s Classy Chanel Gown
Starting with the fan-favorite High School Musical star, Vanessa Hudgens, did not disappoint at the 2023 Oscars. She wore a strapless black and white vintage Chanel gown. Vintage looks good on her, don’t you think?

2020 - Timotheè Chalamet’s Prada Tracksuit
I am never disappointed with Timotheè Chalamet’s looks; whether I see paparazzi pictures of him getting coffee or professional photos, Chalamet always looks stylish. He loves showcasing his unique style everywhere he goes, and I especially enjoy seeing his different looks at award shows. Chalamet jumped on the sustainable train in 2020 and wore an eco-conscious Prada tracksuit to the Oscars; this tracksuit was made of recycled nylon. Chalamet has worn several other sustainable looks for other shows, but this particular sustainable look is my favorite.

2019 - Adut Akech Wears Valentino’s “Eco-Couture”
Model, Adut Akech, stunned everyone in a turquoise gown at the 2019 Green Carpet Awards. According to Vogue, her look is one of Valentino’s special creations made just for her and made of reclaimed materials and organic silk. See the picture below to be awestruck like I was.

2019 - Billy Porter Debuts Creation of the Musical, Kinky Boots
Billy Porter is known for his dapper style, but he outdid himself at the Tony Awards in 2019. He strategically turned the velvet curtain from the hit musical, Kinky Boots, into his look for the night. According to Vogue, Celestino Couture designer Sergio Guadarrama created the set piece into a stunning gown. I will look forward to seeing more of Porter’s striking looks and hope he continues to ride the sustainable wave both on and off the red carpet.

2018 - Gisele Bundchen Rocks the Sustainable Look with a Versace Gown
Can I hear a little commotion for the dress? Gee, whiz! Supermodel Gisele Bundchen wore a stunning sustainable Versace gown to the 2018 Met Gala. This gown was made with organic silk, cotton and crystals from recycled glass bottles from Brazil. Bundchen proved that you can’t go wrong with a sustainable look. I’d love to see more sustainable looks from her in the future.
